Launching surfactant

Introducing Potassium Coffeeate: The Innovative Coffee-Derived Surfactant That Cleanses, Conditions, and Champions Circularity

At Caffe Inc., we believe that sustainable innovation is the new engine of growth and resilience. With the launch of Potassium Coffeeate, we’re not just introducing a new ingredient, we’re rethinking how the personal care industry can be greener, cleaner, and more circular. This biodegradable, natural foaming agent, made from upcycled coffee oil, proves that high-performance formulations don’t have to come at the expense of the planet.

The Problem with Traditional Surfactants

Surfactants are essential in personal care products. They create lathers, remove impurities, and leave skin feeling clean. But behind the bubbles lies a bigger issue. Most surfactants used today are derived from petroleum or palm oil, and they often rely on harsh chemicals like sulfates, which can irritate the skin and negatively impact ecosystems. Their production contributes to deforestation, water pollution, and dependence on non-renewable resources, making them unsustainable in the long run.

The Status Quo

Most anionic surfactants on the market today are produced from palm, soy, or coconut oils, commodities that often lead to deforestation, biodiversity loss, and competition with the food sector. These raw materials require land, water, and agricultural inputs, putting additional pressure on the environment.

At Caffe Inc., we asked ourselves: What if a surfactant didn’t have to compete with food or natural resources?
Our answer: Use waste.

We recover coffee oil from spent coffee grounds, a resource that would otherwise be discarded, and upcycle it into a next-generation, bio-based surfactant. Potassium Coffeeate offers a delightful sensory experience and formulation performance that competes with conventional surfactants, but without the environmental cost. In doing so, we turn waste into value and help make cosmetics truly sustainable.

What We’re Doing Differently

A Unique Upcycled and Sustainable Origin
Potassium Coffeeate is formulated using coffee oil extracted from coffee waste, significantly reducing its environmental footprint compared to ingredients that rely on virgin agricultural resources or contribute to deforestation. Its structure is similar to Potassium Cocoate, making it easy to work with in existing formulations.

Multifunctional Benefits, Beyond Cleansing
More than just a foaming agent, Potassium Coffeeate delivers the natural benefits of coffee oil, antioxidant protection, a unique combination of fatty acids for moisturising, and emulsifying properties, making it a powerful all-in-one ingredient. Because it is made from coffee oil, it helps nourish the skin rather than drying it out like conventional surfactants often do.

Aligned with Clean Beauty Standards
This surfactant is bio-based, sulfate-free, PEG-free, and preservative-free, aligning with the growing consumer demand for clean, safe, and sustainable personal care formulations. It also creates microbubbles, which are the ones responsible for actually cleaning the skin. In contrast, big bubbles enhance the sensory experience but don’t cleanse most of the time.

The Circular Future of Personal Care

With Potassium Coffeeate, we’re not simply offering a better ingredient, building a better system. This surfactant reflects our commitment to circular chemistry, where waste becomes a resource and sustainability is embedded in every drop. We’re rethinking ingredients from the grounds up, literally, and using science to transform an everyday waste product into a high-performing cosmetic solution.

The advised dosage is 5 to 20 percent, with around 10 percent delivering the best results.
