At Caffe Inc., sustainability is the foundation of everything we do. That’s why we recently conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in collaboration with our partners at Hedgehog to better understand the full environmental footprint of our upcycled coffee oil.
What is an LCA, and why does it matter?
An LCA, based on ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards, evaluates the environmental impact of a product from start to finish, including raw material sourcing, production, and packaging. For us, this meant measuring the real impact of 1 kg of upcycled coffee oil and comparing it to conventional vegetable oils such as palm, sunflower, and rapeseed oil.
The results speak for themselves.

✓ Over 90% less CO₂ emissions compared to landfill disposal
✓ Lower climate change impact than many conventional oils
✓ Reduced land and water use
✓ Helps avoid virgin resource extraction and waste generation
✓ Saves ~400 kg CO₂ per tonne of coffee waste processed
✓ 5x lower impact than anaerobic digestion
This confirms that our coffee oil is not only a biodegradable, planet-friendly, natural foaming agent made from upcycled coffee oil, but also a high-performing circular alternative with measurable environmental benefits.
Environmental Strategy: What’s Next?
Our LCA insights have helped shape our long-term environmental goals:
• By 2026, scale up processing to 300 tonnes of coffee waste annually
• By 2027, use 100 percent of coffee waste to its full potential
• By 2028, reduce CO₂ production emissions by 80 percent
