Caffe Inc. Recognized Among the World’s Top FoodTech Innovators in the 2025 FoodTech 500

What is the FoodTech 500?
The FoodTech 500 is a global ranking curated by Forward Fooding that recognizes the most impactful companies shaping the future of food through technology and sustainability. Often referred to as the “Fortune 500 of FoodTech,” it highlights startups and scale-ups driving meaningful transformation across the food system.
Each year, more than 1,200 companies apply, with the final 500 selected through a data-driven evaluation of business maturity, digital presence, sustainability impact, and market relevance. The 2025 edition reflects a clear shift toward scalable solutions that deliver measurable environmental and economic impact.
Why Caffe Inc. was selected
Caffe Inc. was selected as a 2025 FoodTech 500 finalist for its ability to transform spent coffee grounds, one of the world’s largest food waste streams, into certified, high-quality food ingredients with measurable environmental impact.
This year, Caffe Inc. is also proud to be among the 24 Dutch companies included in the FoodTech 500 ranking.
Globally, only around 20% of a coffee bean is used to brew coffee, while the remaining 80% is discarded as waste. Caffe Inc. addresses this inefficiency by upcycling spent coffee grounds into valuable ingredients, extending the food supply chain rather than removing coffee from it.
What differentiates Caffe Inc. is its focus on scalable, food-grade solutions. The company operates a certified food production line (FSSC 22000), enabling the safe production and global distribution of upcycled coffee ingredients. In parallel, Caffe Inc. is pursuing legal end-of-waste status in the Netherlands to support regulatory clarity and long-term scalability.
Caffe Inc.’s impact is measurable. Its upcycling process reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 2.5 times compared to conventional disposal methods, while preventing methane emissions from decomposing coffee waste. The company currently processes tens of tons of coffee waste annually and is scaling toward industrial capacity.
From coffee waste to food-grade ingredients
In a typical cup of coffee, only around 20% of the coffee bean is used, while the remaining 80% becomes waste. Despite this, spent coffee grounds still contain valuable functional components.
Caffe Inc. rethinks this linear model by upcycling coffee waste into high-quality, food-grade ingredients that can safely re-enter the food supply chain. Instead of disposal or downcycling, coffee is given a second life beyond the cup.
This process is supported by a certified food production line (FSSC 22000) and ongoing efforts to obtain legal end-of-waste status in the Netherlands, ensuring sustainability is matched with regulatory compliance and scalability.
What this recognition means going forward
Being selected as a 2025 FoodTech 500 finalist validates Caffe Inc.’s approach to building circular, scalable solutions within the food system. The recognition places the company among a global group of food tech innovators delivering technologies ready for real-world application.
For Caffe Inc., this milestone supports the next phase of growth, including scaling operations, strengthening partnerships across the food value chain, and continuing to demonstrate that upcycled ingredients can meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and environmental impact. It reinforces the company’s mission to create a world without coffee waste by turning what was once discarded into lasting value.
